The Troggs’ gigs 1964-1969

Welcome to another posting of a series of gig listings for 1960s bands. None of these lists is exhaustive and my idea is to add to them in the comments section below over time. They are here for future researchers to draw on.  I have also added a few interesting bits of information and will add images in time.

I’d like to encourage band members to get in touch to share memories, or for anyone to send corrections/clarifications to my email: Warchive@aol.com

Equally important, if you attended any of the gigs below or played in the support band, please do leave your memories below in the comments section for future historians to use. If you know of any missing gigs, please add them too, if possible, with the sources.

  1. Hi. Can you tell me if you are aware of a support band called The Unknowns, who supported you at the Bridlington Spa in 1967?
    Many thanks Vicky

  2. A few gigs in France to add to the above list:
    26 January 1967 – Bobino theatre, Paris.
14 April 1967 – Omnibus, Colombes, near Paris
    15/16 April 1967 – Two gigs:
    – 00.15 am – L’Hermitage, Elisabethville
    – 3.30 am – Aulnay-sous-Bois (can’t remember the name of the club, even though I was there)
01/06/67 – Palais des Sports, Paris. Two shows, each also with Cream, Jimmy Cliff, the VIPs (later Spooky Tooth), the Pretty Things, Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich…

  3. I know I saw theTroggs perform in West Springfield, Massachuetts outside at the Sears department store in 1968 or 1969. They were introduced by radio commentator named Sebastion. They played the song Wild Thing. There was a large crowd watching them including myself, Herb Davidson. I was interested to see them because I was in a band called The Bone Marrow from Connecticut.

    1. Similar recollection – they played Wild Thing and a couple others from a portable platform in the parking lot of a shopping center in/near Mayport or Jacksonville, FL. I was 8 or 9, so I’m guessing it was 1967-68. Before they finished, mom dragged me away cuz she had important shopping to get to…

  4. Hi
I saw the troggs live at The Blue Lagoon, Newquay , Cornwall, UK in either august or September of 1966 , 67 or 1968, yet I can’t seem to find any record of them appearing there .
Could you help confirm when it was.

  5. Hi

    Found another Troggs gig

18 December 1965 (Saturday) – The Astoria Ballroom, St. Mary’s Way, Rawtenstall, Lancashire, 7.30pm – 11.30pm with The Cymerons, Stag Party

    Cheers

    John

  6. Did The Troggs ever appear in the main arena at either the Royal Agricultural Show at Stoneleigh or perhaps the Bath & West Show possibly 1965 or 1966? I’m sure I saw them there?

    1. Hi Malcolm. Yep, you did see the Troggs circa 1966/7 at Stoneleigh Warwickshire on a red hot July day? I, and several thousand school kids were routinely shipped in annually for the show, for seemingly no specific reason other than to look at tractors and bulls! However, me and several friends crawled under the wooden bandstand to eat our packed lunches (by now warm salad sandwiches?) and about ten minutes in, banging and clonking footsteps could be heard above our heads and looking out through the slats of the base we were under, we could see a crowd gathering. A few minutes later whilst presuming an orchestra was just about to fire up, BOOM!!!!!!! Holy Moly it’s the Troggs playing live above our heads and I think opening up with “With a girl like you” Quickly scrambling out from under The bandstand the Troggs were just feet in front of us in if I recall (their striped suits?) and blazing away all their hits in a relatively short set. Hope this jogs your memory Malcolm, talk about a surreal treat for young teenagers? Regards Bob.

      1. The troggs
performed in Halifax N.S I believe it was the summer of 1968 when I went to see them .They we’re at the Halifax Forum

      2. WOW !! Thank you so much for this information Bob, it means a lot to me, I knew I hadn’t imagined it. I was only about 7 at the time and was, indeed, one of those thousands of children shipped in for an end of term day trip from primary school. I have vivid memories of screaming girls and a band in striped suits but could never confirm it. Thank you once again, kindest regards, Malcolm.

        1. Hello Malcolm, yes, I remember seeing The Troggs at Stoneleigh, and yes it was on a school trip, maybe 1967? Can’t remember much about it, as we were secondary school kids, and a mate of mine had a bottle of Woodpecker cider which we were drinking!!

  7. I saw them in concert with a friend in Halifax on May 19th 1968. It was at the Victoria Hall. Honeybus performed also. I was 14.

  8. I remember seeing them at the South of England Showground at Ardingly in approx 1968. It was a really hot day and the group were brought out into the central arena on the back of a flatbed truck towed by a tractor . The teenagers went mad and loads of screaming girls went running towards them. I was lucky enough to get to the front and was able to pass my autograph book up which got signed twice!! A magical moment in time for a 12 year old.
