The Only Onz were from Illinois – one member from Lincoln, the others from Chicago, so I’m not sure where they were based. This 45 was originally released on the R.I.P. label – anyone have a scan of that label?
“When Teardrops Fall” was written by Drezner, Gayle, & Reiss. The band takes about half a minute to get the song really going. On the other side is a decent version of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “On the Road Again”.
Members were Bruce Drezner, Rick Gayle (organ) and Jack Reiss.
Hey, the Barbary Coasters (http://www.myspace.com/thebarbarycoasters) cover this. Dig the Farfisa “multitone-booster” that kicks in during the choruses. Thanks for the great blog!
This was my dad’s band that he started when he was in college. He is the Gayle in Drezner, Gayle & Reiss. He plays the piano. He only has one copy of this song on a 45 and I’d love to get another one and have it framed as a gift to him. Does anyone know where I can get a copy? Yes, they are from IL. All of the band members are still around and occassionally for kicks they get together and jam. I bet he doesn’t even know that anything would come up on his band with Google. Surprise, Surprise!
i have this record on a 45 has when teardrops fall other side has on the road again
Hi Jennifer,
I am running the vintage label Time Records and want to talk to you about your dad and the band. Please email me .
Many Thanks!
Mia
Jack Reiss is at our Thanksgiving festivities. He is doing well!
Members of the Only Onz included:
Bruce Drezner
Rick Gayle
Jack Reiss.
The original song “When Teardrops Fall” was submitted and notarized into the Library of Congress copyright archive on April 29, 1966. A copy of the certificate was mailed back to Rick Gayle, his address at that time was in Lincoln, Illinois. the other two guys had downtown Chicago addresses.
Hi All – this is Bruce Drezner…..I am very much still alive and living in Spain….I was the lead singer and have some photos of the recording session and the Press Kit photo. The label was actually TRIP Records and you have forgotten to mention the drummer Hy Addison. Aaron ‘The Goon ‘ was on lead guitar, Rick Gayle on keyboards and Jack Reiss on bass guitar…he used to double on trombone. I also have a 45 with me here in Marbella , but sorry, don’t want to part with it and might have several more copies in Florida which I might be able to send after September….and the reel to reel tape of the recording session. My email is brucedrezner [at] gmail.com
