Gossip “No One’s Standing in Your Way” / “Whispering Wind”

Gossip Gossip Records 45 No One's Standing in Your WayGossip made this one great two-sided 45 “No One’s Standing in Your Way” / “Whispering Wind” in October, 1968, released on Gossip Records ARA 102268.

The band’s playing and vocals are very accomplished, heavy on “No One’s Standing in Your Way”, and with some psychedelic guitar on “Whispering Wind”.

The only name on the label is Monte Gagg, a senior at Scotsdale High School according to a April 5, 1969 Arizona Republic news item about a production of Our Town at the school.

Tony Thompson commented below with the lineup which I’ll reproduce here:

The members of Gossip on this recording are:

Carrie Thompson (vocals)
Monte Gagg (guitar & vocals)
Tony Lavosi(?) (guitar & vocals)
John Pierson (bass guitar)
Ed Pierson (drums)

This recording was a 1st place prize for a “ Battle of the Bands” competition at Tower Plaza in late summer of 1968.

Carolyn Thompson had an album as Carrie Thompson on Rolling Bay Records in 1980, and three CDs as Carri Coltrane in the 1990s. She was the daughter of Bill Thompson, known as “Wallace” on the local Phoenix kids TV show, It’s Wallace aka The Wallace and Ladmo Show.

According to a youtube comment, the lead guitarist was Dennis Alexander, later engineer / owner of Pantheon Studios. However Tony Thompson wrote in his comment: “Dennis Alexander was not on this 45. He was on the second 45 Gossip produced.”

I wasn’t aware Gossip had a second 45; does anyone know the titles, or if it was released?

If anyone has more info or a photo of the group please contact me. I don’t believe they were mentioned in Edward Wincentsen’s Yes, Phoenix Had Music In The Sixties!

Thank you to Ron Ellington and Tony Thompson for their help with this post.
