This little known Reading, Berkshire band featured siblings, Kelvin and Hugh Bullen, who later joined Joe E Young & The Tonicks.
I would welcome any additional information about the band’s personnel and its history in the comments section below. Also, any photos.

SOUL TRINITY
They were based in Reading, Berkshire.
I have a line up of vocals, sax, trumpet, guitar, bass, drums with a note that the vocalist, guitarist (Kelvin Bullen), bass (Hugh Bullen) and the drummer were black and the brass section were white.
Feb 67 – Chelmsford Corn Exchange – supporting Jimi Hendrix – http://adesuwabullen.com/bio/hugh/
07/10.67 – St. George’s Hall, Exeter “6 piece all coloured group from Marquee Club, Tiles, Speakeasy etc” with Empty Vessels and Velvet Touch
April 68 – the Bullen brothers joined Toniks
22/08/69 Cue Club, Paddington – “Ruby James & The Soul Trinity”
Henrix date was 25th February 1967 at Chelmsford.
web site given for Hugh Bullen no longer seems to be active, but a Google search on him turns up some interesting info
Are you going to launch of the Ricky Tick book in a few weeks’ time in Windsor?
I will be there
Your information on the band is wrong. The drummer was white name Ken McEwen. Brass trumpet and sax both white. Singer and bass and lead were black.
Hi Ken
You said you went out to Vancouver and played with David Foster in a band there. Can you recall any other details such as band name and personnel?
Ken also provided some more info on the band that David Foster led in Vancouver. This would have been only for a few months (circa November 1967-April 1968)
British musicians Mick Patel (guitar) who had been in Warren Davis Monday Band with David Foster; Tago Byers (bass) and Ken McEwen (drums) plus Canadians David Foster (keys) and Chris Earthy (sax).
Tago Byers returned to the UK and replaced Gordon Haskell in Fleur De Lys around May 1968
Thanks for this Ken.
Ken provided a bit more information about a group he played with before The Soul Trinity in 1966:
Tawny Reed & The Heatwave.
Line-up was:
Steve Hammond – lead guitar (later in Chris Farlowe’s backing band The Hill among others)
Ian Green – Hammond organ (briefly worked with Carl Douglas mid-1967 among others)
Tago Byers – bass (formerly with Reading band The Moquettes and later with Fleur De Lys and Amboy Dukes)
Ken McEwen – drums
I believe Denny Ilett played trumpet with the band back in the 60’s and is still playing great mainly Jazz.
Denny was a wonderful trumpeter but sadly has been off of the scene for a couple of years sadly struck down with Dementia, a great loss to the UK Jazz family…..
Ken McEwen played drums with Soul Trinity
Hey Guys, some great info and yes, my dad Denny played trumpet with the Trinity
I remember playing in the park with dad and the brothers at a very young age as we lived in Woodley at that time
I presume you’ve seen the YouTube “ barefoot in “ recording from the Corn Exchange “ Hendrix “ night but wondered if there’s any other footage/ recordings available ?
Sadly our father passed away last year after a period of dementia
Denny Ilett Jnr is very active in the music scene and may be a source of further info
Best wishes 🎺
Actually on a golf holiday with Ken Mcewan
