The Quadrangle were a New York group, and this is their only 45, released in October of 1966.
“She’s Too Familiar” now is a classic garage song. Every element is striking: the keyboard intro, the bass line and drums, the sharp guitar parts and the fantastic vocal, with a tambourine-led chorus that brings it all together.
The b-side, “No More Time” combines a New Orleans type beat with a bit of Donovan’s Mellow Yellow vocal delivery.
I had thought they were only a studio group until I found a mention in the April 30, 1966 issue of Billboard that states “Ray West’s group the Quadrangle closed at Arthur last week and will now record under the supervision of Artie Kornfeld.” Artie Kornfeld did produce them, using the songwriting team of Michael Konstan and Jay Fishman.
Kornfeld had a lot of experience writing classic songs as half of the Changin’ Times with Steve Duboff. Their original versions of “Pied Piper” and “How Is the Air Up There” were covered with more success by other bands. Kornfeld went on to work with many other acts as producer. Michael Konstan released a solo lp on RCA in ’73. I’d like to know more about the other members of Quadrangle, though.
This is a great page. Keep going!! trying to find the flip side to The Changin Times “How is the air up there” or the song Alladin.
I just found this posting… I knew Mike Konstan back in the day, and I’ve always wondered what happened to him. He and friends of his, Ivan and Harold, and some of my friends used hang out. Anyone know how to reach him or where he is??? I finally just got a copy of his album… I remember when he was writing those tunes…..
Let me know how you knew Michael and I can send him your contact info.
Linda,
I just looked at this page and saw that you’d replied to my posting back in 2009. My apologies for not responding sooner! I met Michael’s friend Ivan Elinsky at a party in Brooklyn in 1963 or 1964. Eventually he suggested we go to Manhattan so I could meet Michael. Michael was a trip. He’d play for us do some really funny “bits” about his experiences in the biz. Michael knew me as Diane. Please let me know how to send you my contact information -in a way that won’t post publicly – so you can pass the info to Michael.

I want to know something about konstan’s music and konstan’s life. Contact me at diaframma4ever@gmail.com.
I actually was in a group called Tynan Love with Mike around 1965. Obviously we didn’t get very far.
I also knew Ivan…he recommended me for a job in the garment center.
Does anyone have any contact info for Mike? I’d like to catch up. Haven’t been in contact since 1968.

The Quadrangle were a 4 piece band from Long Island,
Formerly called The Fortels. The were rooted in doo wop vocal music then played instruments as The Beatle influence changed pop music.
The members were: Bernie Colombo-guitar and vocals, Tommy Anno (Anumziatto)- keyboards and vocals, was also talented magician. He passed away in the early 2000’s., Richie Cafaro- drums and vocals, Paul Arena-bass and vocals. 60 years later, Cafaro and Arena still play in working bands.
