Karen and the Starliners came from Plainfield, Connecticut, but recorded at Planet Studios in Providence, Rhode Island. “I Can Count the Times” has a good garage backing, the flip “Storm in My Heart” is a more typical ballad.
Fred Richards wrote both songs, published by Planet’s in-house company Ranford Music Co., and registered with the Library of Congress in October, 1966.
This seems to be their only release. I don’t have any other band members’ names.
According to the BMI repertoire search, Fred Richards is Friedrich Richards, who is not himself with BMI but with the German equivalent, GEMA.
Don’t know if this is the right place to post re:Planet Records but to my recollection Planet was owned/operated by the Muff brothers. Ray and Myron Muff. Ray owned Muffett’s Music in downtown Providence and Myron ran a studio around the corner maybe on Weybossett Street. I recorded in his studio once but never got an acetate even of the track. It was pretty horrible backing up a female singer of questionable talent. IIRC Myron’s studio was the Providence equivalent of AAA Studios in Boston where many people had their poems and lyrics turned into records by a house band.
In my previous comment above AAA Studios should read Ace Studios.
