The Fenmen’s gigs 1964-1967

Welcome to another posting of a series of gig listings for 1960s bands. None of these lists is exhaustive and my idea is to add to them in the comments section below over time. They are here for future researchers to draw on.  I have also added a few interesting bits of information and will add images in time.

I’d like to encourage band members to get in touch to share memories, or for anyone to send corrections/clarifications to my email: Warchive@aol.com

Equally important, if you attended any of the gigs below or played in the support band, please do leave your memories below in the comments section for future historians to use. If you know of any missing gigs, please add them too, if possible, with the sources.

Jon Povey and Wally Waller left about this time to join The Pretty Things – Waller remembers that his debut gig was around Easter (late March) in Les Sables-d’Olonne in France

Initially, Jon Povey was replaced by drummer Tony Newman from Sounds Incorporated before Tony Glyde from The Loose Ends took over on drums. Glyde left around late July and subsequently joined Simon K & The Meantimers.

Andy Clark from the Big Wheel joined on keyboards and vocals.

The group was expanded for a while and I would welcome any reader insights

  1. Melody Maker, issue 29/4/1967, page 5 says that Jon Povey and Alan Waller have joined The Pretty Things but there could have been a bit of delayed in reporting the move

    1. Yes, there was a delay in reporting, because the first ever gig, Wally and Jon played with the Pretty Things, was in Les Sables-d’Olonne in France. It must have been between March 31st and 13th of March,1967. Wally first thought it was on Easter weekend 1967, but that is not possible, because those 2 dates the 4 piece band with Phil, Dick, John Stax and Skip (their last concert) played in Holland (26th and 27th of March 1967).
