Dave Curtiss & The Tremors

Welcome to another posting of a series of gig listings for 1960s bands. None of these lists is exhaustive and my idea is to add to them in the comments section below over time. They are here for future researchers to draw on.  I have also added a few interesting bits of information and will add images in time.

I’d like to encourage band members to get in touch to share memories, or for anyone to send corrections/clarifications to my email: Warchive@aol.com

Equally important, if you attended any of the gigs below or played in the support band, please do leave your memories below in the comments section for future historians to use. If you know of any missing gigs, please add them too, if possible, with the sources.

  1. Dave Gunnell was known as Dungles. They went mid/late 60’s to S Africa, Abijan for one. I saw notices of them touring UK in 1970’s.

  2. I saw them at Butlins, Clacton in 1963. They were the resident band for the Summer Season I believe. They were partly responsible for my excursion into Rock and Roll which lasts until this day!

  3. DAVE CURTISS & THE TREMORS GIGS 1963-1966

Dave Curtiss – lead vocals, harmonica (born David Laurence Atkins, 10 November 1943)

Jack Jacobs – lead guitar (born 19 October 1939)

Dick Gunnell – rhythm guitar (born Richard Gunnell, 4 July 1943)

Spike Hayward – bass (born Maurice Hayward, 19 July 1944)

Roy Williams – drums (born 11 May 1941)

Dave Curtiss and the Tremors formed in April 1962 in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

In 1965 Jacobs, Gunnell, Hayward and Williams left the band and formed The Martells in 1965 in Colchester, Essex.

Dave Curtiss and the Tremors were joined by Rod Alexander on guitar.

Dave Curtiss and the Tremors split in 1967.

  4. Dave Curtis and The Tremors had a summer residency at Butlins Clacton during the summer on 1963 so we saw them every night.
    They were great.
She Loves You was released the week we were there, it was the height of Beatlemania.
