The Beagles “All I Need Is You” is a crude garage number very reminiscent at times of “Can’t Buy Me Love”. There are a couple good shouts and a decent guitar break. It’s backed by the goofy “Him and Her”, a song about the two dogs at the White House getting in LBJ’s way.
The band was from Lynchburg, Virginia, with song writing by John William Suddith and Wayne DeWitt, published with Gary Simpson who owned the Beagles name (thanks to Mop Top Mike for the info).
The band members were:
Bill Suddith – lead guitar and vocals
Lonnie McLane – guitar and lead vocals
Russ Jordan – bass and vocals
Wayne DeWitt – sax and vocals
Donald Turner – drums
Released on the Empire label in the spring of 1964, this 45 was pressed at the Southern Plastics plant in Nashville, using Nashville Matrix to master and plate.
No relation to the Beagles cartoon which had some great tracks like “I Feel Like Humpty Dumpty”.
The group was from Lynchburg, Virginia.
The 45 was released circa April-May, 1964. “Him And Her” was inspired by the dogs then residing at the White House
John Suddith and Wayne DeWitt were the songwriters, published in conjunction with Gary Simpson who registered a DBA under “The Beagles”.
No connection to the cartoon group with released recordings.
Hey Mike,
thanks for the info, I’ve incorporated it into the post above.
finally after all these years I have found the Beagles. But I was really hopeing for the song him and her for which I have sought for over 30 years
I was the drummer for the Beagles I still have a small stack of the 45’s we cut.NEVER BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THE JACKET.
I still have couple of the 45’s
I believe that the guitarist and co-writer of this song as well as “Him and Her” was named Billy Suddith, not John. (although it might have been William John or John William…but he went by Billy) He was my guitar teacher fronm 1964-1965, and played all of the leads on this single…he was a very good guitarist, and one wild and crazy guy!! (I mean that in the best way possible)
Hey Eric. His name was John William. He was a good friend of mine for 50 plus years.Really funny & crazy.

I played in a band called KIKS a few years ago with John Williams and Russell Hovda.
The Beagles dressed like the Beatles and sang all the Beatles songs. I was a freshman in high school and seeing them perform at theParamount Theatre with my buddy Dennis Delaney was the first rock concert I ever wen to. I also saw them play in the parking lot st Pittman Plaza. As I understood it then, however, Him and Her was the A side as they were trying to cash in on the controversy over President Johnson picking his beagle dogs named Him and Her up by the ears.
