WNYU Mod Monday radio show – one of the very few ways to hear garage sounds when I was in high school in suburban NY in the 80’s. I’ve since lost my cassette copies of portions of the show, but a friend gave me a few cds of shows recorded back in the day. I’ve uploaded an entire show (as two tracks, mono to save space) in mp3 format.
Part one is about 46 minutes, and 27 MB. Part 2 is 30 minutes and about 17 MB. Of course, you can just stream these instead of downloading. This one includes the Chesterfield Kings, a cool version of I’m Down by the 13th Floor Elevators, the Trademarks, Them, Lyres, Quests, etc etc.

Thanks this site is great!
would you happen to have the song list for this?
The Mod Monday shows you have are absolutely terrific. I started listening to Mod Monday in Dec 1982. The show began in June 1982. I still have bits and pieces on tape. I didn’t always get a clear signal as the broadcast was coming from a low power college station. The DJs in the early days, Captain Wheems and Sylvia seem to have been more enthusiastic and energetic than the later DJs. I wonder what happened to these DJs. Great Show and thanks for putting it on your site.
Sylvia was my favorite. they used to get a lot of their records from Venus Records and Midnight Records on 23rd street. I’m sure I still have old tapes of the show from the early days. They also played commercials. WSIA (staten island) also had a show. Of course Bill Kelly and Jim Marshall were doing their shows on WFMU at the time.
That was good radio…
Where is Buzz Gileland now and what is he doing?
This is great!
I was just conversing with a woman i just met about the garage music in the eightees and Mod Monday came up. I still have two or three casettes from the show from 1983. They have both Sylvia and the Roadrunner as the DJs. Since this is now difficult to find i am already on fourth generation copies of the casettes that i still play on a portable sony casette radio player.
Thanks for the sight

One of my favorite music shows, you can’t find anymore. Thanks for this out.
I loved WNYU mod Monday and always listened in 1982 and on, I made requests like the Delvetts, I call my baby stp, they played it for me the music was awesome and I met Sylvia and Capt Weems at a mod Monday night at the dive they were nice and friendly , the Mosquitos, the vipers, the outta place were playing and everyone had a great time like it was 1966 again. Cheers to Wnyu fm, capt Weems and Sylvia.
I used to tape the shows also, to listen to in the car again and again. Can’t tell you how much vinyl I bought because of music I heard on that show!
